How Many Tears Does A Mom Have?

raining-tearsMy first born left for college.
She is 2500 miles away.

I’ve spent two days trying not to think.
It hurts too much.

I bawled all the way home from the airport.

I’ll see her at Christmas.
It doesn’t help the tears.

Sing
your heart out dear.
I could not be prouder.

Aww – beautiful poem. It accurately reflects the feeling. My son left home at 18 years old AND my best friend moved out of state in the same month! I was devastated! What helped me deal with it was realizing that it was the cute little toddler I was missing the most, not the obnoxious teenager – and that cute toddler had been gone for quite a few years already. So, in the beginning I focused on the relief of not having to deal with obnoxious teenager’s foibles! Later, as I got into a new life, I was able to begin to remember the wonderful parts. Glad to report: 12 years afterward, I now live within 10 miles of him and he is a dear young man.
