If You Have A Brother Electronic Knitting Machine, This Is So Cool
Our machines have happily been hacked to allow a computer, including a Mac, to act as the external floppy drive. You can then use Photoshop or other paint program to make stitch patterns and download them to your machine.
There is a detailed tutorial available if you want to hack too, complete with a photo tutorial on how to make a USB cable to connect your computer to the knitting machine.
This solution works, but is geared for someone comfortable with making a cable and using a command line interface program such as Terminal on the Mac. There is additional info at Steve Conklin’s Electroknit Technical Information page
I so hope these ladies’ efforts spur others to contribute their programming skills. Machine knitters need more open source options for interfacing our beloved equipment with modern computers, including the Mac.
Thank you Becky Stern and Limor “Ladyada” Fried!

This is a great idea! I’m going to work on this for my 930.
Is there any information on how to do this for my 270, Brother electronic bulky knitting machine?
Will this emulator work to input into a PPD, to input to a cartridge to put in a pattern to a 270?
Thanks for posting this information.
will the hacking for the 930 work on a 940????
I have a 940 and would love to be able to do this with the 940????
Thanks,
Cindy
I just got a this machine (930e) and set it up. Does anyone know how to fix a lace carriage that keeps jamming?
If I put one needle into B position w/o yarn it works, 2 needles in B, works, three works most of the times but when I get a few stockinette stitches on the machine and then go to use the lace carriage it jams and tons of stitches get dropped.
I have to remove the 4 screws and 2 guides from the front of the lace carriage and then coax it off the bed.
Anyone know what is going on?
I’m new to knitting machines so I’m at a complete loss.

how long will i have to wait
