Full Fishermans Rib and Reversible Cables
After having fun with reversible cables in 4 x 4 rib columns, I decided to play around with using Full Fisherman’s Rib as the base fabric for double sided crosses. The results were nice.
Side 1
Here is one side. Note you can see three rows of crosses.
Since Full Fisherman’s Rib is made by tucking one bed while knitting the other, then reversing the process on the return trip, you need to pick an odd number of row repeats between the crosses.
This way you always cross the stitches on the bed which has just knit off stitches, not just received tucked stitches.
Side 2
Here is the other side. Note that you can see four rows of crosses.
I used 9 rows in between crosses. This sample was knit on a Passap Duo 80. After casting on, set both locks to EX/EX. Knit 9 rows. cross stitches on bed that has knit stitches. Knit 9 rows.
Cross stitches on opposite bed that just knit.
Repeat.
How To Cross Cables
My Full Fisherman’s Rib sample was knit with a full needle rib set up (every needle on every bed in work). Then starting at the right on the bed to be crossed, mentally number the needles 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4 as you move to the left. Skip needle 1, remove needle 2 stitch onto a transfer tool, skip needle 3, remove needle 4 stitch onto a second transfer tool. Now place the needle 2 stitch onto needle 4 and then place the needle 4 stitch onto needle 2. Repeat across the bed.
Knit 9 rows
Repeat the cross pattern on the opposite bed starting at the right side of the machine.
Knit 9 rows.

I just got my Passap Duo 80, from a wonderful lady and her daughter yesterday.
I have been cleaning the machine as it has been sitting for sometime. Your website is wonderful for the person with no experience!
As soon as I complete the cleaning process, I am going to make the preemie hat.
Then work on the fisherman’s rib and cable, using both beds! I am very anxious to get started. It’s just too bad that I have to clean the machine, however,it does help me to become more familiar with it.
Thank-you for having this wonderful website!
After I get started with the basics, I will be looking forward to watching your site, for working with the Passap deco!
You are a great teacher!
hello,
I just started this job and I have no experience.
You can put photos of the various steps, please?
thanks
