Knitting Machine Manuals - Brother, Passap, Studio, Knitmaster, Singer, Silver Reed

So you found a great buy on a used knitting machine. Only one catch - there’s no manual.

Check out some of these free downloads to see if one will work for your Brother, Passap, Studio, Singer, Silver Reed, Knitmaster, Juki, or Toyota machine. Pick the model number closest to your equipment by the same manufacturer. You should be pleasantly surprised at how much information is useful.

When you’ve got your machine up and running, take a peek at the pattern links at the end of this post. There are over 250 pages of scanned sweater, hat, and sock patterns to inspire you.

PLEASE NOTE: As of June 2011, Brother has changed their FTP website. A login screen appears. Select “Guest” rather than name/password and it will let you in.

I have scanned a lot of the punchcard sets for knitting machines at the Machine Knitter’s Treasure chest - ’cause often the punchcards get seperated from the machines.

Of course, I couldn’t do just a little bit, I was up till after midnite, going back and forth, over 300 rows of fine textured wool, nice smooth stitching. It forces me to assume good posture, and I noted this morning I could feel it in my shoulders a little. This one’s a keeper! Thank you for all your help and great reference material!

The carriage is jammed to the point of not being to release at all. I have no clue what other number of manual that would come close to work for this machine.

I took lessons from a terrific teacher, knitted up a flurry of fair isle knit hats and scarves then we moved to a house in the country that we completely gutted and remodeled. I packed away my dear Brother to keep the dust and dirt and all the remodeling things out of it returning to my hand needles. We are now in the 9th year of a five year plan but very close to the end. I unpacked my beloved machine and we did not recognize each other. I have no idea what to do. I oiled and cleaned her, got out my manuals and the excellent book and computer program Machine Knitting by Injoo Kim and Ruth Burbank hoping that I would learn by osmosis. It hasn’t happened. After playing around, some of the knowledge is coming back as I meticulously follow the instructions but a big glitch has occurred. The K carriage runs smoothly up and down the bed when the needle are in any position except E. Then it jams immediately. It looks to me that my instructions have the needles in E but I cannot make a pass. My teacher is many hours away. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Laura-Jean

I am looking for the manual for the ribber attachment, as that is still a mystery for me. I did download a similar one, but I know it will still be hit or miss. Wish me luck.

I have received a Singer 370 Knitting machine. Everything seems complete. However, the main carriage was packaged separately and I cannot seem to be able to reinstall it. It looks like the memory drums will not move. I don’t want to force anything. It may have sat for a long time, but seems oiled and clean. The manuals are no help. Thank you.

On this machine you can use a punch card and also feed a large pattern piece.
I’ve decided since it survived a flood, that the machine shoulbe be used to help others. So it is now going to be used for making and donating hats and blankets. *That is once I take some refresher courses on how to use. I do recall it’s called a standard model and uses fine gauge yarns.
If you can offer help in obtaining copies of the manual-please let me know.
I’m aware Singer knitting machine are now called Silver Reed-but have no idea how this Singler model falls under this brand. Thank you,

Whilst searching for a service manual for the KH881 I found the USER MANUAL, advertised for sale as KH860/KH881. I have checked with the download above and found it is the book I have. So if you’re looking for the KH881 Manual, here it is!
HOWEVER if anyone can trace a Service Manual for the KH881 I would be very pleased.

I also have a Passap Automatic with instructions in German and English, but no trouble shooting help. Cast on and 3 rows work perfectly, but every 4th row does the “broken toe cast off”, I am using the feather combs to keep stitches on and have even tried adding weights, but with no luck. Any suggestions for this too would be great, as currently I’m just a frustrated would be machine knitter!

137 Rhonda Herbert { 04.10.11 at 8:49 pm }: Just a note to say how happy I am today. I bought an orphaned Juki 871 at a charity store, checked for all the parts and took it home. Some months have passed and the carriage would not move, I tinkered with it a few times and then packed it away again. This week we have a weather forecast of the snow season starting in the Snowy Mountains NSW.
That lit a fire in me to ’service’ this Juki somehow and find the problem so I could knit on it. Standard gauge machine and me dreaming of knitting Australia’s most common ply, 8, also known I think as sport in the USA, tension of 22 stitches and 30 rows in 4 inches. Well over two days and lots of little containers for different screws and with different screwdrivers around me I put it all back together. Set it up and threaded up. It worked. Eight ply knits at T6 for stocking stitch and about T5 for rib. I found the manual here and still have some learning to do as this machine is different from all my 7 other machines which do not do 8 ply. My 7 other machines have automatic or card patterning and this Juki only has hand tooling. That OK as my stash has visibly shrunk now I can knit on this Juki 871 machine.

It is a Hand-E-Knit Star P., made in Japan. No numbers or instruction manual. Opened up the cardboard type carrying case and it still smells like sewing machine oil. Carraige moves-sticks a bit in some spots.

I am searching for one and have not been able to find one specific to the 322 - do you know what model would be compatible? I just want to know the basic how-to of using it - threading, carriage operations, basic trouble-shooting. I don’t know that I’ll ever be as advanced as her with making clothing, but it sure would be nice to make blankets out of the massive amounts of yarn I inherited as well.

188 polly henry { 01.03.12 at 6:49 am }: i need help with a 360k singer knitting machine. i used a brother when i was a child at home with my mom. that was 50 yrs ago. i bought this machine, no manual, but the problem is that when i try to put the cam on the 2 round drums are locked and do not let it slide onto the rod and roll in the notches as they should. how do i unlock the drums? is there a site? the ones i have seen, only show how to slide it on, but mine are locked. thanks some help me!!!

190 David Toft { 01.07.12 at 2:35 am }: In answer to Polly Henry. The grease on the drum spindles has dried up with age. You will need to take the drums off, clean the muck out and put a very small amount of oil on the shafts. It is impossible to tell you how to get them apart without showing you. Just undoing screws without knowing what you are doing will leave you with a pile of useless bits. Where are you, I am in the West Midlands UK.

I have a set of punchcard numbers KRC 41-50 that were with the KH260 and ribber I purchased from my cousin’s wife; it had been her mother’s. How can I find out what stitches these cards represent since they are not listed in the ribber manual?

Speaking of manuals, I have manuals for the KH 910, KX 350, KH 260 and KH 940 as well as the ribber manuals and also for the Auto 81GC garter carriage. I also have manuals for color changers and other equipment if anyone needs copies. Thanks.
