Knitting machines galore since one is never enough, photo tutorials, and knits gone wild

Knitting Machine Manuals - Brother, Passap, Studio, Knitmaster, Singer, Silver Reed

So you found a great buy on a used knitting machine. Only one catch - there’s no manual.

Check out some of these free downloads to see if one will work for your Brother, Passap, Studio, Singer, Silver Reed, Knitmaster, Juki, or Toyota machine. Pick the model number closest to your equipment by the same manufacturer. You should be pleasantly surprised at how much information is useful.

When you’ve got your machine up and running, take a peek at the pattern links at the end of this post. There are over 250 pages of scanned sweater, hat, and sock patterns to inspire you.

Brother

Please note, you will need a fast internet connection to reach Brother’s FTP server. The folder is huge. You will have quicker response by downloading the individual manuals listed below. Also, Firefox seems to work better than Safari when trying to access the site.

Passap

Most of the parts sheets are courtesy of PassapCanada. The rest come from around the web.

Studio, Knitmaster, Singer, Silver Reed

Roni Knutson has uploaded the following on her machine knitting site.

Clarisse has uploads of the following. They will come up as boxes on the right hand side of her blog and you can download the pdf sections as needed.

Britlady52 has uploaded numerous manuals at Photobucket.

My Knittings Machines and Me has links to manuals for vintage Knitmaster machines, Bond equipment, looms, and several wool winders. I’ve included the direct links for Knitmaster below. You can access the other links from her site.

Toyota, White, Superba, Maruyama Princess, and Juki

Clarisse has uploads of the following Toyota and White/Suberba manuals. Several will come up as boxes on the right hand side of her blog and you can download the pdf sections as needed. Others have dedicated web sites.

Superba, Juki, and all others

Patterns and Miscellaneous

If you know of any knitting manuals lurking freely on the web, please drop a line in the comments. I want this list to grow as much as possible. If you own a blog, I’ll make sure to link to your site where the file is uploaded.

WOW! Fantastic resource, there.

I have scanned a lot of the punchcard sets for knitting machines at the Machine Knitter’s Treasure chest - ’cause often the punchcards get seperated from the machines.

I’ve added links to your Punchcard Set scans. I know many will be happy to find them.

I got my pinkie to knit! We cleaned her up and oiled the tracks and beds, and she knits just fine. I’m so happy with it. Of course, I couldn’t do just a little bit, I was up till after midnite, going back and forth, over 300 rows of fine textured wool, nice smooth stitching. It forces me to assume good posture, and I noted this morning I could feel it in my shoulders a little. This one’s a keeper! Thank you for all your help and great reference material!

I bought a Singer knit machine. Main bed no is Singer F 370. The ribber is Studio F R P - 70. It is smaller needles than the Brother 840. The carriage is jammed to the point of not being to release at all. I have no clue what other number of manual that would come close to work for this machine.

I would appreciate any help at all.

Yippppppppeeeeee that I have found your site! I do hope I don’t prove to be too needy for your patience. I bought a Brother KH 894 ten years ago. I took lessons from a terrific teacher, knitted up a flurry of fair isle knit hats and scarves then we moved to a house in the country that we completely gutted and remodeled. I packed away my dear Brother to keep the dust and dirt and all the remodeling things out of it returning to my hand needles. We are now in the 9th year of a five year plan but very close to the end. I unpacked my beloved machine and we did not recognize each other. I have no idea what to do. I oiled and cleaned her, got out my manuals and the excellent book and computer program Machine Knitting by Injoo Kim and Ruth Burbank hoping that I would learn by osmosis. It hasn’t happened. After playing around, some of the knowledge is coming back as I meticulously follow the instructions but a big glitch has occurred. The K carriage runs smoothly up and down the bed when the needle are in any position except E. Then it jams immediately. It looks to me that my instructions have the needles in E but I cannot make a pass. My teacher is many hours away. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Laura-Jean

All the pdf files available are listed above. You will need to pick a model closest to your own. Your only other option is to search the net for a rare copy for sale.

I have an older Passap knitting machine, from around the mid-1960s, it’s the Speed-o-knit automatic. I have the manual for it and am quite willing to share it with anyone who might need one.
I am looking for the manual for the ribber attachment, as that is still a mystery for me. I did download a similar one, but I know it will still be hit or miss. Wish me luck.

Hello, Can anyone tell me what I have? It’s an old Tanzer-Gruden knitting machine # 413495 that my mother in law has that was handed down to her from her sister. It’s all stainless, made in Germany, never used. It’s a light green in color, about 36″x8″ or so.

Where can I sell this or find someone who would want it?

Thanks in advance!

Just bought a brother kr 860, kr 260, ribber, electric carriage, and a lot of stuff that looks like it could belong inside a 1880’s steam engine for $200.
Never knitted, 26 yr old sportbike racer and I will be using the machines to make knitted Kevlar armor for bouncing across the pavement. Thanks for the info on how to use these units, I was about to junk the whole works!
I need a little info on how to use a linker though, I don’t know if I have one (I likely do in here somewhere) and am lazy enough that casting off seems like a lot of work. Thanks again!

Hello,
I have received a Singer 370 Knitting machine. Everything seems complete. However, the main carriage was packaged separately and I cannot seem to be able to reinstall it. It looks like the memory drums will not move. I don’t want to force anything. It may have sat for a long time, but seems oiled and clean. The manuals are no help. Thank you.

I’ve been trying to download the Stitch World book with no luck whatsoever. It appears the link to that as well as several others are broken. Is there any way I can get a copy of the Stitch World book? I just purchased a KnitKing 940, but there’s no book with the patterns that are in the memory and I’m told there are 555 of them. Could you please help?

Thank you very much,

I have an old Brother knitting machine. It appears to be in good shape for it’s age. But I can find no model number on it and was wondering if you might be able to help. It’s in an old green metal case which it’s attached to. Looks like all the parts are there just not sure. Would love to get it running. Not sure where to start a manual would be great.
Thanks,
